Student Spotlight
Junior, Kaleb Hinman, Completes Summer Internship with The Franklin Johnston Group
 
Kaleb Hinman, a junior majoring in Real Estate Finance and Economics, was selected as a an intern for The Franklin Johnston Group this past summer. Kaleb describes his internship as an experience that taught him how the real business world works. He states, "Out of the many things I got out of the internship, the thing which means the most to me was having valuable conversations with people who were kind enough to take the time to give me advice about life."
 
Kaleb completed his first two years of college at Tidewater Community College before transferring to ODU this fall. His goal is to pursue a career in real estate development and he is most interested in new construction development.
 
Three ODU Students Attend the IREM Annual Meeting
 
Last month, three Old Dominion students had the privilege of attending the annual meeting of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) which was held on the Spirit of Norfolk. Joseph Van Putten, Derek Grier, and Kaleb Hinman were all in attendance. In addition to those three students, ODU alum, Gabrielle Gullins also attended the meeting. Gullins graduated in May and currently holds the postion of Leasing Representative at Harbor Group.

S.L. Nusbaum Presents To ODU Real Estate Club
 
The E.V. Williams Center for Real Estate thanks Angie Lombardi, Angelique Mazzella, Ariah Rogers, Donje Putnam, and Amanda Hamilton of S.L. Nusbaum for taking the time to come and speak to the students of MSSRE this past Tuesday.
Deborah Stearns Receives the Legacy Alumni Award
 
At a ceremony on October 24 th at the Strome College of Business,Deborah Stearns of JLL and a longtime supporter of the EVWCRE and the HLSRE was awarded the Legacy Alumni honor.Annually, the Strome College of Business honors distinguished alumni and faculty who have stood out in their fields and community. The three categories are Legacy Faculty, Legacy Alumni and Future Legacy Alumni. Legacy Faculty- faculty who taught full-time for five years or more and who have been retired five years or more.Legacy Alumni- alumni who, over the course of their career, achieved significant outcomes professionally.Future Legacy Alumni -alumni who, in the first ten years after graduation, have established themselves as leaders of distinction, with high potential for a lifetime of significant achievement.
A native of Hampton Roads and Old Dominion University Distinguished Alumna, Deborah is a Senior Vice President with JLL’s Hampton Roads office. She specializes in office and industrial property sales and leasing. Deborah brings 40 years of experience in commercial real estate to assist clients and identify solutions. She was inducted into the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame in 2015 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Volunteer Hampton Roads in 2009.
 
Steve Girard Speaks to Finance Club and GIS
 
On Tuesday, October 1, Steve Girard, Regional President of Markel came to campus to speak to the Finance Club and GIS. Markel is a holding company for insurance, reinsurance, and investment located in Richmond, Virginia. Girard discussed the wholesale industry, opportunities within Markel, and the WSIA (Wholesale and Specialty Insurance Association) .
